Start with a clean baseline
Write down what happened before you fix it.
Do this during a real match where the symptom is obvious. A speed-test result alone cannot describe what happened on the path to a game server.
- Note the date, local time, game mode, selected region, and whether you were solo or in a party.
- Record the in-game ping range, any packet-loss indicator, and the visible symptom: delayed hits, rubberbanding, voice breakup, or a disconnect.
- List what else was using the connection. Uploads, cloud backups, video calls, and another player can change the result.
Read the symptom carefully
Ping is one signal, not the verdict.
A steady but high ping points to a different next step than a connection that jumps during fights. Packet loss and variation can make a match feel worse even when the displayed number looks familiar.
Check the game side
Confirm the region and rule out a live incident.
Confirm the region shown in the client and in the party flow. If the issue is sudden or affects several people, review the Riot Games service status before treating it as a home-network fault. Riot's Valorant Support Center is also the right place for game and account-specific connection guidance.
Remove local noise
Test the simplest path you can control.
- Use Ethernet for one comparison. If that is not practical, move close to the access point and pause other wireless-heavy activity.
- Pause uploads and cloud sync. Run the same mode again while the connection is otherwise quiet.
- Repeat at a second time. A result that only appears in the evening can be more useful than one isolated number.
- Keep the device constant. Do not change graphics, drivers, router settings, and route tools all at once.
Only then compare a route
An alternate route is a comparison, not a promise.
If the baseline is repeatable and the game, region, and local network look normal, you can compare an optional route tool. Use the same device, region, match type, and time window. Keep the normal connection as the control. A better single run is not enough evidence to recommend a tool.
